Kicking King wins King George
December 26 2004
Kicking King and jockey Barry Geraghty survived a mistake at the last fence to take the 2004 King George VI Chase.
Well ahead coming to the last, Kicking King stumbled badly on landing but somehow Geraghty managed to hold on. The win gives trainer Tom Taaffe a famous victory, 30 years after his father Pat won the race on the legendary Arkle.
Azertyuiop had been Kicking King's closest challenger coming into the home straight but faded in the closing stages, allowing Andrew Thornton and Kingscliff to take second two and a half lengths behind the winner with Azertyuiop third.
