Kempton Park Secure £1.5 Million King George Deal
September 1 2004 - Press Release [ www.kempton.co.uk ]
Kempton Park’s prestigious two-day Christmas Festival has secured a new five year sponsorship deal worth £1.5 million with leading bookmaker Stan James. The deal means that prize money for the two days will reach record level.
Steve Fisher of Stan James commented: “We are thrilled to have signed such a prestigious sponsorship and the now Stan James Christmas Festival with its three Grade One races over the two days provides us with a fantastic sponsorship vehicle. The King George is one of jump racings most famous races and with the likes of Moscow Flyer and Isio already plotting the race for their 2004 campaigns it could be an amazing first year.”
Julian Thick, Managing Director of Kempton Park, commented: “We are delighted that Stan James are sponsoring our flagship jumping festival. The five year deal also reinforces our commitment to jump racing and to providing the best possible prize money. We have increased prize money this year to £575,000, with £200,000 of it being contested in the Stan James King George VI Steeple Chase.”
Nigel Clark, Chairman of Kempton Park, commented: “It is very apt for Stan James to become the new sponsor of the 2004 Christmas Festival as they are one of the leading bookmakers in the country and our race meeting represents one of the flagship Jump Racing Festivals of the season. Prize money has risen significantly over the two days and the new deal endorses our commitment to jump racing for the next five years and beyond.”
Due to the increase in prize money competition over the two day Festival is expected to be fierce. The Stan James King George VI Steeple Chase this year will become the greatest jump race ever held on a Sunday. The meeting managed to secure its traditional 26 and 27 December dates, despite Boxing Day falling on a Sunday.
Although it is very early, speculation over potential runners is already rife. The winning combination of Henrietta Knight and Jim Lewis will sure to be on show again, but can they make it three in a row?
