Notre Pere to take on Kauto Star in the Betfair Chase

Kauto Star will make his seasonal debut in the Grade 1 Betfair Chase at Haydock this Saturday in what looks set to be dismal conditions with rain and strong winds expected to lash the track.

Punters are looking at trainer Jim Dreaper’s mud-loving Notre Pere as the horse to take the challenge to Kauto Star, who won the race in 2006 and 2007 but unseated jockey Sam Thomas at the final fence last year to miss out on the hat-trick of wins. Notre Pere is the only Irish horse in the field this year and was the winner of last season’s Welsh Grand National and Punchestown Gold Cup.

Among the Betfair Chase runners are a number of horses entered in this year’s King George Chase, including Kauto Star, Imperial Commander, Madison Du Berlais, Barbers Shop and Albertas Run.

Betfair Chase odds at William Hill:
6/5 Kauto Star, 9/4 Norte Pere, 5/1 Madison Du Berlais, 9/1 Imperial Commander, 14/1 Barbers Shop, 14/1 Halcon Genelardais, 16/1 Tidal Bay, 33/1 Albertas Run, 33/1 Nozic, 40/1 Rambling Minster, 100/1 Seymour Weld, 100/1 The Sawyer
