Deep Purple's odds slashed for the King George Chase after winning the Peterborough Chase
Deep Purple’s odds for the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park have been slashed from 25/1 to 14/1 with event sponsors William Hill after winning the Totesport.com Peterborough Chase on Thursday.
The eight year old, trained by Evan Williams, could now head to the King George Chase on December 26 after his emphatic win over a strong field, under a 10lb penalty and after starting as a 12-1 outsider.

20 horses remain in the field for the 2009 King George VI Chase
After the latest forfeit round 12 horses have been scratched from the 2009 King George VI Chase. This now leaves 20 horses in the field for the the grade 1 feature race at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.
While there were no real surprises in the latest round of scratchings, notable horses to be removed from contention include Voy Por Ustedes, Kalahari King, Well Chief, War of Attrition and Monet’s Garden.

Kalahari King is out of the 2009 King George VI Chase
Kalahari King has been scratched from the King George VI Chase because trainer Ferdy Murphy believes that the Winter Festival feature race is not a suitable race to start the season with. Murphy instead is hoping that Musselburgh Racecourse will put on a suitable race for his Grade 1 winning chaser in order to prepare for the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on March 17 2010.
“He’s very well at the moment,” Murphy said on Monday. “We’ll scratch him from the King George tomorrow because you can’t run there first time out.

Voy Por Ustedes will not run in the King George Chase
Alan King, trainer of Voy Por Ustedes, has revealed that he will consider running his 8 year old chaser at the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown on December 28 and not the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on December 26.
“He’s got an entry and he won’t run in the King George” King said.

Schindlers Hunt is being primed for the King George Chase
Irish raider Schindlers Hunt, a dual Grade 1 chase winner, is being primed for the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and will bypass the Lexus Chase.
The nine year old was fourth in the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot and was runner-up to Notre Pere in the Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup and trainer Dessie Hughes thinks that Kempton Park and the King George VI Chase will suit him.

Nacarat is still on track for the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park
Nacarat is still on track for the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on December 26 despite failing to finish the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury last Saturday.
The eight year old grey, trained by Tom George, was prominent for most of the Long Distance Hurdle before jockey Sam Thomas pulled him up two flights from home. Nacarat ran over hurdles because there were few suitable races for him over fences.

RSA Chase winner Cooldine could be heading for the King George VI Chase
RSA Chase winner Cooldine could be heading to Kempton Park for the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day and his first clash with Kauto Star.
Willie Mullins, Cooldine’s trainer, confirmed that the grade 1 event at Kempton is a possibility for his talented seven year old chaser.

The Queen's horse Barbers Shop being considered for the King George Chase
After a credible fourth in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on the weekend Nicky Henderson may consider running Barbers Shop over three miles again, possibly at the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.
Barbers Shop, one of the Queen’s horses, performed well considering the ground at Newbury was softer than ideal to make the frame.

Imperial Commander heading for King George Chase
Imperial Commander’s handler, Nigel Twiston-Davies, is convinced that the 8 year old will have a better run this year when he once again takes on Kauto Star in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park.
In last year’s King George Chase Imperial Commander had a poor run while Kauto Star won the race for the third successive time. In their most recent contest Imperial Commander, in his first race of the season, lost by a nose to Kauto Star in the Betfair Chase at Haydock.

There will be a number of possible runners for this year’s King George VI Chase in action at the Newbury Winter Festival between November 26 – 28.
The highlight of the Newbury Winter Festival is the Hennessy Gold Cup on Saturday November 28. In it’s 50th yeah, the Hennessy Gold Cup is a Grade 3 National Hunt chase open to 4 year olds and over. Last year’s winner Madison du Berlais is a possible runner in this year’s King George Chase.
